After a train fiasco on the way to Salzburg, we arrived mid afternoon. The hotel was within a walking distance from the train station. There was a sense of relief when we got to Austria. People speak English and they seem to be much nicer than Czechs. After we dropped off the bags, we walked to the city center to get lunch. Of course, not without taking pictures at the Mirabel garden.

It's very Sounds of Music |

We asked the hotel receptionist where we should go for a local lunch spot. She recommended this place.
|
Light and not too bitter beer. My sister and I both liked it. |
|
I tried goulash and a potato with egg dish. Holy cow! it was massive. |
Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart. To honor the musician, there's a candy called Mozartkugel that translates to Mozart balls. We passed the candy shop that made the original candy. It has Marzipan inside which I don't like.

More pictures on the way back to the hotel |

Bike/ jogging path along the river. I did run the next morning on the trail. |
|
Lock of love bridge. Now almost every city has this cheesy tradition. |
We were only in Salzburg for two days. The next day we did the Sounds of the Music tour.

This is the lake where Maria and the kids fell in after they were so excited to the captain |
|
This house is not the house in the movie. The real house was about 5-10 minutes away. The producer liked the lake and the backyard, so that's why it was filmed there. |
|
Sixteen going on seventeen gazebo |
|
The tour guide explained to us each location used in the movie. The yellow house below is Schloss Hellbrunn. It had nothing to do with the movie. After the shooting was done, they moved the gazebo to the palace.

Non Alcoholic refreshment on the bus |

This is the real house. We didn't stop. I just took the picture from the bus. |
|
The onion shaped dome is Maria's seminary in the movie. |
|
Too bad we couldn't stop for a photo op |
|
This place is owned by Red Bull, that explains the bull fountain. |
The last stop of the tour is Mondsee cathedral, the church where Maria and the captain got married. The church is in this tiny cute town. The view was gorgeous.

The Chuch |

Cafes and shops across the street from the church |
|
The locals painted the church pink and white. Not so tasteful, in my opinion. |
|
Pink Hydrangea. I see them less than the white and blue ones. |

After the tour ended, my sister and I split. I was going to the Mozart museum but she wasn't interested. But later on, I changed my mind, and went back to the hotel and napped to get rid of my headache, then headed back to the town and sat in Cafe Sacher. There are two Sacher cafes, the other one is in Vienna. They're famous for Sachertorte, Chocolate sponge cake layered with apricot jam. I wasn't in the mood for a dessert, so I just had a cup of tea. The cafe itself was pretty and a good place for some quiet time.

Last few photos of the Mirabel garden before we headed out to Vienna the following morning |

This was taken to the steps where Maria and the kids sang. |
